sandy has affected us in delaware compared to our neighbors to the north. we are doing okay. this sandy didn't spare delaware and we have produced beyond our state's ability to provide. from the moment it is clear we are in the storm's path, i've been grateful for the work of governor jack martel and his entire team. state, county, local officials, first responders, american red cross, national guard, many volunteers are hoped to protect the residents as it approached and well after it passed. president obama, fema, the rest of the administration's team working hand in glove with their state team. in this case there was really a team. as i like to say there is no i in the word team. i should have the army corps of engineers has been particular in responding to hurricane sandy. over the years, funded by a series of storm protection projects in maryland are polite, robust and strong, healthy systems. these types of projects criticized at the time by some on my opinion because they performed exceptionally well during sandy black hundreds of millions, maybe billions of dollars in damage. as

in newtown, connecticut. it all started when a gunman entered through the doors of sandy hook elementary school. we are awaiting a press conference, you're looking at that right now. it has not begun, but i do want to give those of you who have joined us a sense of what happened. tom foreman walks us through what happened yesterday morning minute by minute. >> this is what we know at this point about the timeline of the shooting reported by law enforcement officials and witnesses and the layout of the school as best we can piece it all together. 9:30 in the morning, classes had been underway for a half hour. more than 600 students and approximately 50 faculty members inside the building. in addition to that there's a meeting just convened by some of the school officials including the principal in a room somewhere right up here, about seven of them all gathered in one room. about 9:40, ten minutes later, as beck we can make it out, that's when the gunman appears to have entered the building. how? we don't know. they had a new security system right up here that might have kept him out, not

at the sandy hook elementary school here in this small connecticut town. 20 children were killed. 18 of them were pronounced dead right at the scene of the school. two of them were rushed to the hospital, hoping that they could save them. those children died at the hospital. six adults at the school were also shot dead. and they died at the scene as well. nancy lanza, a teacher at the school and a mother of the suspected shooter, was also killed. but she was found dead in her son's home in newtown. adam lanza, the 24-year-old brother ryan lanza, was taken into police custody. ryan lanza taken into police custody for questioning in hoboken, new jersey, earlier today. officials had not labeled him a suspect. but he was taken away in handcuffs. his brother adam died at the scene. but police are not saying at this point if he killed himself. police did say that they did not discharge any of their weapons and yet he was dead on the scene. law enforcement sources also telling cnn that the shooter in this horrible tragedy was dressed in "black battle fatigues and a military vest." the principal of

're slated to begin work on a bill offering additional funding for victims of hurricane sandy that would provide an additional $9.7 billion in borrowing authority for the national flood insurance program which is now capped at $20.7 billion. it would also provide the requested $11.5 billion for the fema disaster relief fund, and it also includes some mitigation measures for future disasters. also we expect later debate today on a couple of judicial nominations. earlier this afternoon south carolina governor nikki haley announced she's selected freshman congressman tim scott to fill the seat being vacated by senate jim demint. senator demint leaving to become the president to have heritage foundation, and we'll take a look at what governor haley had to say now. .3 billion in transportation-related damages due to superstorm sandy. of that total, the new york mta suffered about 5 billion in dages. it's huge. i never saw anything like it. we have the longest underground tunnel in the world in the brooklyn battery tunnel. i take it almost every day i'm in new york city because my home in brooklyn is connected to it. it was totally filled with water. both tubes, from one end to the other, from the manhattan end to the brooklyn end. ere were close to 100 million gallons of water that had to be pumped out of that tunnel and it's still not back up to snuff. that's one of many examples. there's so many. the mta did a very good job. i want to congratulate joe lhota. they moved their rolling stock to high ground. tried to barricade this awful flood in the best way they could. boy, it's awful. the mta is the largest public transportation system in the country. it's the life blood of new york. it's our circulatory system. 3.5 million people g on and off manhattan island every day to work. wow. 3.5 million people. i guess that's more than the people in mi

, all in tribute, a touching tribute to the victims of the tragic shooting here at sandy hook elementary school. on monday, two of the victims were remembered by this community overcome by grief, and today, two more children will be laid to rest. hundreds gathered on monday to say goodbye to 6-year-old jack pinto. a little boy who loved sports, idolized the new york giants' victor cruz, who remembered pinto sunday. his father called the loss unimaginable. and said most of all, jack loved to play with his friends and keep up with his big brother. many of those friends attended the service. much too young to say goodbye. >> they were being comforted, and yet protected and sent a message of you're being secure now because the worst is over. >> reporter: not far away, mourners remembered 6-year-old noah pozner. the little boy with a perpetual smile, described as a smart, funny child, who loved to eat tacos and loved animals. pozner's mother spoke at the service, calling noah her little man. noah's twin sister ariel survived the shooting in another classroom. near sandy hook elementary, messa
